I found this picture while scrolling during my morning commute and there was an audible gasp. The space looked so warm and inviting with the sun shining through the French doors… and that desk!
The “Waste Desk” is by Piet Hein Eek a Dutch designer who specializes in building one-of-a-kind furniture using scrapwood and reclaimed materials.
I made an appointment to visit The Future Perfect where this photo was taken and the gallery that represents Eek in NYC. The Future Perfect described this desk perfectly, “Simultaneously constructed and crafted, scattered and composed, the waste desk demands multiple views of what might normally be merely functional and forgotten.”
While at The Future Perfect, I saw more of Eek’s designs and lots of gorgeous work by other designers. I’m sure I’ll be visiting The Future Perfect again and again.
I badly want this wall cabinet but would happily settle for this pile of scrap wood. I can’t get enough of that natural color palette.
