Today I’m focusing on the intricate work of Ingrid Donat and her solo show “Ancestral” at Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Midtown Manhattan. Ingrid Donat is a French artist & designer known for her bronze sculptural furniture designs.
Donat takes inspiration from various sources such as the works of French Art Deco designer Armand-Albert Rateau (1882-1932) and the French sculptor Germaine Richier (1902-1959). Her patterns are inspired by the gilded ornamentation and patterns of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) and the Nigerian process of scarification seen in tribal masks.
Donat Says:
“My approach is about imbuing bronze with warmth and vitality by using scarification techniques and visual motifs inspired by the high art of cultures and communities with which I come into contact.”
Ancestral will be on view at Carpenters Workshop Gallery until February 14, 2025. Please check it out.
